The scenes between Regan and Gorbachev are the main highlights and seem to be more spaced and scant throughout the movie. The disruptions of the story with scenes of the media are not entertaining and overall useless for the movie and its intended tale. There are multiple scenes of staff members being beyond confrontational between the sides. To my knowledge and beliefs, this never occurred and would stopped immediately given the gravity of the situation and discussion. Overall, I find the movie lacking. The expectation of a focus on the discussion between the leaders of two world powers became undermined with filler and false narratives put forth were not rewarding. I don’t think this movie deserves any critical acclaim due to many faults. If you could find this online and skip between segments, then I believe it may be worthy of an additional star, but the theater did not provide me such luxury. See more Paul D @MoroseMusician 11h Despite the valiant dramatic efforts of the filmmakers, Brink of War is a talking head movie highly reliant on the audience’s willingness to focus on, follow, and understand arguments and counterarguments. Some of the dialogue among Reagan, Schultz, and others came off as contrived speechifying; but it might have been necessary for younger audiences members who have no living memory of the people, the spirit of the age, and the perceived stakes involved. Jeff Daniels portrayed Reagan as physically much more overweight than I remember him. He incorporated some of Reagan’s mannerisms, but he made him appear much less facile in speaking than I remember his being. The actor who played George Schultz looked so much like the real person that it was almost a bit distracting. The Gorbachevs were well represented by the two actors who portrayed them. Nancy Reagan didn’t get trashed too egregiously in the movie, although the obligatory reference to her astrological charts was made.
