anto M @RT37561112 2 days ago When you think of the equipment used to make Taklies in 1932 and what Hollywood was capable of 8 years later (Gone with the Wind and Wizard of Oz) be proud to be an American. This is no masterpiece but none the less enjoyable. We have legends like Greta Garbo chewing the scenery, a very young Joan Crawford, Wallace Beery and 2 of the Barrymore brothers. What is this is about? That's above my pay grade. Could be rich people pretending to be the same as us and poor people having one last roll of the dice but before they shuffle off this mortal coil. And then 42 minutes in you hear one of film making most famous lines spoken by Garbo "I WANT TO BE ALONE". Now how many can say I never knew it was coming. This played for 11 months in L.A. The public went wild for a peak into European sophistication during the melodramatic ending is not what modern audience's expect but the scene between Barrymore and Crawford shows that she was a hole lot better actor than we ever knew.
