Alas, The Nun is more chaotic than most of the many, many films set in The Conjuring universe. To compare it to a ghost train would be to understate the narrative cohesion that habitually governs those seaside entertainments.

The Nun is a good horror movie. There isn’t anything truly exceptional about The Nun, but it executes the tropes of a haunting/demon story better than most. Like The Conjuring, it is a light, but very effective R-rated feature.

The Nun sucked. This was such nonsense, and a terrible and ridiculous prequel to The Conjuring films that tried to do what Annabelle: Creation did, in a way, but didn’t know how to actually be good like that movie. The performances were mostly fine, and there are some nice set-pieces and some decent cinematography. But literally other than the technical aspects, this film offers nothing. The scares aren’t very effective, it’s noticeably less creative than the prior entires in this franchise in terms crafting such scares, and the story makes absolutely no sense. There’s no consistent logic, the rules feel like they constantly change, and the way they represent Catholicism here makes no sense and was clearly contrived to tailor to the plot they constructed (And I’m not even Catholic. Though I am Christian, and I know enough about Catholicism to know that this is hogwash, top to bottom). More technically competent than Annabelle, but the story and plot mechanics are just as bad.
