Sofia works as a location scout for a network TV show shooting in New York City. It's her job to find the homes, businesses, and exteriors where the soon-to-be-shot show will take place. This means a daily journey into the private spaces and lives of numerous city residents, photographing their properties and briefly stepping into the fabric of their lives. Over the course of a day filled with these encounters, Sofia plays witness to moments of curiosity, vulnerability, and quiet tension, until her work takes a sudden, personal turn. THE SCOUT is a contemplative exploration of urban disconnection, following one woman’s quiet journey through other people's worlds as she struggles to find her own.

'The Scout' is refreshingly not about this coveted ascension; it appreciates the small things that may one day be laid to rest. Go to Full Review

At its best, “The Scout” captures the contradictory experience of having a job closer to your dreams than many people ever get, but still far from where you want to be. Go to Full Review
Natalia Winkelman New York Times Sep 25, 2026
The film, a work of fine-grained realism, still offers an evocative study of the struggle to live intentionally in New York, a city that demands speed. Go to Full Review

With The Scout, González-Nasser crafts something wholly serene. The movie is an article of observance, a steady hand’s reflection on a whirlwind job and a life caught between moments. Go to Full Review

L T @RT83111491 2 days ago A slow, meandering story about the lead actress experiencing, but not dealing with the existential challenges of her daily life. See more Christina A @Senioraudience1234 5 days ago It is an interesting view of behind the scenes and very realistic. Her life in New York is very challenging but that is not a plot or a movie alone! I kept waiting for something to happen and it just moves along very undramatic. Sort of boring. See more Richard B @rtb01 Oct 24, 2026 This was an interesting movie, but definitely not entertaining. Along with having no plot, it produced massive amounts of anxiety in me. See more Debra C @debcom5 Oct 23, 2026 This moving was boring and slow, full of annoying characters, and eventually said nothing. See more Roy J Oct 21, 2026 It's more about the lonely characters in NYC than the actual experience of scouting or filmmaking. Some of the dialogues were amateurish, but the lead actress kept my attention. Recommended for low budget indie fans. See more Romney L @Romney Oct 20, 2026 It’s a darling concept. But, a terrible movie! I was bored, bored, bored. See more Read all reviews
