The problem with ghost films like this that are based on a true story is that the fact the case was never solved is exploited for cheap scares and a cinematic narrative that doesn't have to make sense.

What Happened to Doris? does an especially good job focusing on how Doris faced not only disbelief of the supernatural in her attempts to figure out her situation, she also faced gendered disbelief.
