The British lost, but in terms of the contest between interest and boredom, it’s a draw. Go to Full Review

…a worthy prequel to the 1963 classic Zulu, and one that broadens the criticism of the first film. There’s a lot less heroic Brits in the movie...Cy Endfield’s script takes few prisoners in its detailed evocation of multiple, avoidable massacres. Go to Full Review

Rides the line between being a pure artifact of a bygone era-one that depicts a romanticized, unrealistic version of the time-and a modern, revisionist take that strives for a more accurate portrayal of historical reality. Go to Full Review

A simple two-act story: Prelude to war, and the war. The former is concerned with a lot of British derring-do and priggish behavior. The latter consists of battle scenes with a lot of kinetic energy but not as much emotional punch as they should have. Go to Full Review

A rousing visual spectacle that's a prequel of the Cy Endfield directed Zulu (1964). Go to Full Review

Seen today, it's not only a startling indictment of British imperialism, but it seems a remarkably forward-thinking work. Go to Full Review

Huntin P @PaxVobiscum80 3 hrs ago Grim and essentially pointless prequel to the superior ZULU. A British army gets wiped out, mainly due to poor communications and obstinacy. A bigger army worsts a smaller army? Some story. In the original Zulu, which dramatizes events from the same day, a tiny assemblage of British soldiers defend a field hospital against a Zulu army maybe 400x the size. Against the odds, they manage to survive. Now that's a story worth telling! See more Jack M @JackMiehof Oct 18, 2026 Long lead up with a chaotic final battle scene. See more Steve D @RT35616104 Apr 20, 2024 About as lame as the original. See more Marshall P @RT35667160 Jun 28, 2023 It seems there will likely not be another movie that so well approximates the events (and stupidity) this 19th century battle and decision making. A pompous British general rather criminally overreaching . The indigenous population paying dearly to defend their needs and traditions. Watching again each year my movie rating remains high. What would history have been like if the Brits had traded, provided support and respected the Zulu people? See more charles s @RT48597959 Dec 11, 2022 This was a bore with none of craft that made the first interesting except maybe more traditional uniforms. All of the British characters were shallow and most were obnoxious and there was very little effort putting into connecting it to the original. Worst of all the action scenes were just a chaotic mess impossible to string together to follow the action with horrible stuntwork to boot. Save yourself the time and just read a historical description of the battle, this just caused me to lose all interest in the topic entirely. See more Ahmed A @Ahmed8128181811 Jul 9, 2022 The best depiction of the battle of Isandlwada around. Ideal for military enthusiasts. See more Read all reviews
